Detection of Leaks on Machine Tools with Flow Sensor
In machine tools such as a lathe or milling gantry, coolant and lubricants are fed into the processing chamber. This area is sealed by mechanical seals, but leaks occur due to regular wear. If the leak flow is too high, it pushes the fluid back into the spindle bearings and damages them. To prevent this from happening, flow sensors are integrated into the leakage line to measure the flow velocity. If the measured value is above a defined limit, the sensor issues an alarm signal to replace the seal.
Flow Sensors
Flow sensors operate according to the calorimetric principle and can be mounted independently of the current direction. weFlux² series models combine flow and temperature measurement; parameter setting or data transfer can be carried out via IO-Link.
