Illumination Methods with Spot Lights
Illumination and vision systems that use spot lights typically work with the following illumination methods. Further specific methods are detailed in the descriptions of the individual products.
Brightfield h3>
Using spot lights as an incident light causes reflections on the surface of the object being inspected due to the direct illumination.
Low Angle h3>
Placing spot lights at a flat angle creates contrast along the edges of the object, resulting in minimal illumination of the surface.
Darkfield h3>
When spot lights are aligned flat, they clearly accentuate the contours of the object’s edges, while only a small proportion of light falls on the remaining surface.
Point Illumination h3>
For focused illumination of smaller areas, only a spot light is required.
Coaxial Illumination h3>
In combination with telecentric lenses, magnifying lenses or macro lenses with in-line illumination inputs, the spot light can be guided along the optical axis of the camera. This results in even and shadow-free illumination.
Backlight h3>
A diffuse attachment allows the spot light to be used as space-saving backlight for applications with limited installation space. Telecentric lenses increase the visual field.

Features of Spot Lights at a Glance
Spot lights impress with its robust aluminum housing with IP67 degree of protection, which reliably protects against dust and water. The M30 thread offers flexible mounting options. Thanks to the internal heat sink, they impress in both powerful strobe and continuous modes, ensuring uniform illumination even in challenging application environments. The integrated power control also optimizes the performance and reliability of this illumination technology.

Versatile Light Sources
wenglor spot lights are extremely powerful and bright, with an illumination intensity of up to 360,000 lux in strobe mode OverDrive. They are available in the light sources white light, red light and infrared light.
Classification in the electromagnetic spectrum:
Classification in the electromagnetic spectrum:
- White light 5,700 K
- Red light 630 nm
- Infrared light 850 nm
Flexibility of the Zoom Lens
The lockable zoom lens allows a variable beam angle in the range of 4 to 26 degrees with constant homogeneity. With precise position repeatability, it provides precise visual field alignment to achieve optimal illumination with perfect Gaussian curve and high intensity. The easy manual adjustment allows quick adaptation to different working distances and makes the spot light ideal for industrial image processing applications where flexible illumination is of great importance.

Spot Light Applications
Spot Illumination for Robot-Guided Quality Inspection of Interior Parts h4>
Before installing interior parts in passenger cars, the mounting elements must be checked for their presence and correct position. For this purpose, a smart camera with one spot light per side is mounted on a cobot. Due to the light weight and small size of the illuminations, they can be attached directly to the robotic arm. While the cobot scans the parts to be inspected, the spot lights provide precise illumination of the elements so that the camera can reliably detect each mounting element.
Position Determination during Depalletization h4>
In logistics, pallets with the boxes on them are depalletized fully automatically by robots. To ensure that the robot can grip the boxes safely, the exact position of the grip holes of each box must be determined. With the help of four cameras and adjacent spot lights for precise illumination, the robot can reliably detect the gripping holes and grip the crates safely. The spot light is ideal for applications with limited space due to its small format.
