How Does Laser Triangulation Work? h2>
The 2D/3D profile sensors included in the weCat3D series work with the laser triangulation measuring method. A laser line is projected onto the object to be measured. The camera integrated into the sensor records this line via the triangulation angle. The sensor is thus capable of generating a precise height profile. Stringing these 2D profiles together makes it possible to generate a 3D point cloud.
weCat3D sensors are available with red or blue laser light in laser classes 2M, 3R and 3B.

Advantages of 2D/3D Profile Sensors
The weCat3D series provides a high dynamic range practically regardless of the object’s color and brightness.
weCat3D sensors generate powerful measurement signals, even in the case of reflective surfaces such as metals.
weCat3D sensors reliably detect even the smallest of components thanks to extremely high resolution in working distance Z and measuring range X.
The 2D/3D profile sensors included in the weCat3D series deliver reliable measured values for metallic and glossy surfaces.
In addition to the 3D data, simultaneous acquisition of signal strength by weCat3D sensors permits the generation of high-contrast gray tone images. Amongst other things, these can be used for the detection of data matrix codes and barcodes or contamination on objects – without any additional hardware.
