In a block storage system, robots take over the transport of storage containers. To ensure precise movement of the robots on the rails of the storage system, two time-of-flight laser distance sensors are mounted between the wheels. During left/right movement, the sensors check that the wheels for forward/reverse movement are off the rail. Only then do they release the signal. At the same time, it is monitored whether the wheels are correctly and completely seated in the guide rail for the new direction of movement. If this is the case, the robot starts moving. The distance between the robot and the rail system must be continuously monitored during automated storage and retrieval as well as transport of storage containers in block storage systems by robots. For this purpose, two laser distance sensors (time of flight) in miniature design are mounted at an angle of approx. 90° between the wheels for left/right and forward/reverse movement. In a cube storage system, vessels such as containers, boxes or crates are stacked, stored and removed by robots and transported through the storage system. To monitor the position of the robots and the number of crossings passed, two fork sensors are installed between the wheels. During travel, the light beam of the light barrier is interrupted because the bar of the rail is between the fork arms of the sensor. In the automotive industry, sheet metal parts are taken from a stock by a robot gripper and fed to the welding robot. Several sheets can stick together due to adherent oil, wedging of the sheets or magnetic charge. To ensure that only one sheet is gripped per assembly process, two laser distance sensors triangulation are mounted at opposite positions. The sensors measure the distance to the sheet and then calculate the sheet thickness via a difference calculation. If this result is greater than that of an individual sheet, a signal is output.

When manufacturing tires, the dimensional accuracy of the rubber treads must be checked at regular intervals. For this purpose, the width, thickness and profile of the black, glossy rubber tracks are precisely measured with a 2D/3D profile sensor. To ensure the safety of employees during maintenance work or machine malfunctions, the sensors are equipped with a certified laser shutdown. If the safety circuit is interrupted, the laser switches off while the sensor remains active. This reduces downtime to a minimum.

In the steel industry, overhead cranes are used to transport sheet metal coils. Since there are often several cranes on a shared track, there is a risk of collisions. Laser distance sensors time-of-flight work with a reflector mounted on the opposite crane. They measure the distance between two cranes up to a distance of 100 m and transmit the information to the control system. This enables hazardous distances to be detected and cranes to be slowed down in good time or stopped if they approach too closely.

When manufacturing plugs, it must be checked whether the correct number of pins are present and whether these pins are in the correct position. For this purpose, dark field illumination, consisting of a modular ring light and a dark field attachment, is attached together with a smart camera at a short distance in front of the products to be tested. Due to the very low angle of incidence (60°) of the light output, the illumination ensures the dark field effect and thus optimal illumination of the pin tips.

In screwing and feeding technology, metallic fasteners are transported through plastic hoses via pneumatic pressure and placed in plastic boxes at the end. In order to provide the presence and the exact number of objects for subsequent assembly, inductive ring sensors with separable housing are installed directly on the hose. Thanks to the correction factor 1 and adjustable sensitivity, reliable control of the material flow is possible at high speeds and with parts of different sizes and alloys.

In the manufacture of wooden pallets, automatic nailing machines are used to join the individual wooden parts. The nails required for the process are conveyed with compressed air through plastic hoses and then shot into the wood. Inductive ring sensors are installed at the ends of each hose to check that a nail has been shot through each hose and that the nail connection has been established correctly. Thanks to the separable housing, the sensor can be mounted at different points on the hose and thus individually adapted to the machine.

In the automotive industry, aluminum body parts are joined using rivets. In the case of robot-controlled punch riveting, the objects made of aluminum or brass are conveyed directly to the punching device through plastic hoses by compressed air. Before the rivets are applied automatically, the correct routing through the hose must be checked. For this purpose, an inductive ring sensor is installed on the hose via a clamp fastening. Thanks to the correction factor 1 and the adjustable sensitivity, objects of different sizes and alloys can be reliably detected.

In screwing and feeding technology, fasteners such as screws, nuts or rivets are automatically conveyed, sorted, separated and then supplied to the screw system via feed hoses by compressed air. Inductive ring sensors are mounted on the hose in order to reliably detect objects guided at high speed. Thanks to the separable housing, the sensors can be mounted and dismounted quickly. Distance Measurement for Material Replenishment of Magazines in Car Body Construction with Laser Distance Sensor Time-of-Flight
In automotive shell construction, body parts such as doors, tailgates or fenders are stored temporarily in magazines in a fully automated process. In order to monitor their presence, a stationary laser distance sensor time-of-flight is installed on the side of each carrier. Thanks to wintec, the sensor measures precisely even on shiny and highly reflective surfaces, including objects positioned at an angle. The measurement function thus enables objects to be counted so that upstream and downstream processes can be controlled without errors. 1D Code
A 1D code, also known as barcode or one-dimensional code, is a code whose optical aquisition is made in an unidimensional way.

A 1D/2D scanner is a scanner that can read and process both 1D codes (1D code) and 2D codes (2D code).

2D Code
A 2D code, also known as a two-dimensional code, consists of a pattern of dark and light elements (bars, rectangles and squares with corresponding spaces in between) which are arranged in a 2D fashion. 2D codes have a more complex layout than 1D codes, and the technology required for acquiring and deciphering them is more complex as well as the scanner must always read the entire pattern depicted by the barcode in order to acquire and decipher 2D codes, and not just a horizontal line as is the case with 1D Codes. Two-dimensional codes contain more diverse information than one-dimensional codes, for example information for the identification of products, texts such as addresses, and delivery note numbers. In general, we differentiate within the 2D codes between the stacked codes (stacked code) and the matrix codes (DataMatrix code).

2D Code Scanner
A 2D code scanner is a scanner which operates according to the principle of an image processing system. It is equipped with a CCD or a CMOS element plus an integrated illumination and scans (scanning) a defined surface area depending on the selected scanning range. Thus, it is capable of reading 1D and 2D codes omnidirectionally.

3-A SSI
3-A SSI is an organization which sets standards in the field of food and beverages in close cooperation with the FDA. It is comparable with the EHEDG in Europe. Components in closed processes (e. g. piping) can be certified by 3-A SSI. Certified components bear the 3-A logo. Components in open processes (e. g. conveyor belts) cannot be certified.

3-Stage Enabling Switch
3-stage enabling switches (enabling switch), in comparison to 2-stage enabling switches, have the advantage of always ensuring safe shutdown in emergency situations regardless of individual user operation (release or pressing – in the event of a cramp). Mode of operation of a 3-stage enabling switch:

3D Tracking
3D tracking is the sum of rotary tracking or translatory tracking plus auto-focus. Objects are tracked with regard to the X and Y positions and are reliably detected by auto-focus at various working distances.

6-Band Multispectral Sensor
In a 6-bank multispectral sensor, the spectrum of visible light is broken down into six ranges including red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet (ROYGBV color space). This makes it possible to detect extremely fine color nuances thanks to spectral measurement.

Absolute Pressure
Absolute pressure is pressure relative to zero pressure in an empty space (vacuum). Example: Atmospheric pressure (ambient pressure / air pressure) has an absolute value of approximately 1 bar and a relative value of 0 bar.

Absorption
Absorption is a process in which the radiant energy of a light beam passing through a medium is partly or fully converted into another form of energy, e.g. heat.
