Effortless Thickness Measurement without Analysis Module.
P3 Laser Distance Sensors Triangulation
Thickness measurement takes place by arranging P3 series laser triangulation sensors in opposite positions. The P3 sensors use the triangulation method to detect the distance to the object to be measured and then calculate the thickness of the object based on the two recorded values. The thickness of the material is determined exactly with precise distance measurements. This method not only enables extremely accurate thickness measurements, but is also versatile and suitable for use in various applications and with different materials.

Easy Operation to Measure Thickness
This video shows a practical example demonstrating how quickly and easily the P3 sensors can be set up for thickness measurement. Referencing makes setting for thickness measurement quick and easy. The laser distance sensors with display enable direct reading of the object thickness on the main sensor. It is also possible to configure the sensors via Bluetooth via the weCon app and conveniently call up the measurement results.
FAQ on Contactless Thickness Measurement with P3 Sensors
The T-splitter makes the initial startup of the thickness measurement easier. It ensures correct wiring between the main and secondary sensors. For this purpose, the sensors automatically adjust to the corresponding operating mode when the T-splitter is used.
However, the thickness measurement also works without the T-splitter, so it is not essential. Wiring can also be carried out via terminals in the control and the operating mode can be configured using the various setting options.
However, the thickness measurement also works without the T-splitter, so it is not essential. Wiring can also be carried out via terminals in the control and the operating mode can be configured using the various setting options.
To initialize the thickness measurement, a one-off referencing must be carried out after installation. The current distances are taught in so that the main sensor can now calculate the thickness.
Objects with a thickness up to 400 m can be measured. It is important that the objects to be measured are always within the two working ranges of the sensors.
As soon as the sensor is in thickness mode, the analog value at the analog output and the IO-Link process data correspond to the calculated thickness. The analog value of 5 V or 12 mA is assigned to the thickness used for referencing. A larger thickness then gives a value between 5 and 10 V or 12 and 20 mA, a smaller thickness results in an analog value between 5 and 0 V or 12 and 4 mA.
