Sheet Metal Stack Detection in Passenger Car Body Construction Via Laser Distance Sensors ToF
In pressing and punching plants for car body parts, individual blanks are cut from large steel rolls, known as coils, prior to the pressing process. The sheets stored on top of each other are transported to the transfer points on load carriers by forklift truck. To prevent collisions, the stacking position is monitored by ToF laser distance sensors, which reliably detect the metallic and highly reflective sheets from a great distance. Different stacks can be detected and distinguished from each other thanks to two switching points.
Laser Distance Sensors Time of Flight
Laser distance sensors Time-of-Flight (ToF) work according to the principle of transit time measurement, which means that they cover large working ranges up to 10,000 mm, so that objects can be reliably detected even at great distances. The ToF sensors are extremely robust against interfering ambient light, which ensures reliable operation.
