Redundancy

Redundancy is about characters that are available, although not required, for the representation of a piece of information. The degree of redundancy has great significance for code reliability as corruption may occur in the case of poor printing quality. Reading reliability increases along with redundancy. In some cases, the height of a barcode can also contribute to redundancy. For example, “elongated” bars and spaces do not increase information content, but they do improve reading reliability.
