Presence Check of Fabric Panels in Rear Body Cells in the Automotive Industry Using Laser Distance Sensors Time of Flight
For the production of trunk trims, fabric panels are pressed in automated robot cells, so-called rear body cells. After two fabric plates have been heated, they are placed in a press by a robot arm. The trim is now pressed under high heat and temperature. This process does not start until the presence of the object has been verified. This is checked from a safe distance by two time-of-flight laser distance sensors installed on the side. The sensors reliably detect both the metallic surface of the press and the deep black fabric.

Laser Distance Sensors Time of Flight
Laser distance sensors Time-of-Flight (ToF) work according to the principle of transit time measurement, which means that they cover large working ranges up to 10,000 mm, so that objects can be reliably detected even at great distances. The ToF sensors are extremely robust against interfering ambient light, which ensures reliable operation.
