Focal Distance

The focal distance is the distance from the centre of the lens to the point at which axially parallel light beams converge after refraction through a lens. If focal distance is great, picture angle is small and depth of focus is minimal (telephoto lens). A small focal distance results in a large picture angle and increased depth of focus (wide-angle lens).
