Guidance of Ultrasonic Probes on Welded Seams with Smart 2D/3D Profile Sensors

After the submerged-arc welding process, the spiral welds on steel tubes must be examined with ultrasonic probes. A smart 2D/3D profile sensor is installed above the ultrasonic probe to enable precise guidance into the center of the tubes. This profile sensor creates a 2D height profile via laser triangulation, which is evaluated directly in the sensor housing with the configurable standard uniVision software. The combination of software and intelligent hardware ensures continuous control of the probes.
