I sensori con Industrial Ethernet rende superfluo l'utilizzo delle schede d'ingresso analogiche e digitali nelle unità di controllo, poiché tutti i dati di servizio e misurazione sono letti, analizzati ed elaborati in tempo reale e senza essere trasformati. Power-over-Ethernet integra il trasferimento di dati e l'alimentazione di corrente in un cavo e riduce così l'impiego di cablaggio.
