After being handed in at the airport luggage check-in counter, suitcases and bags are placed in plastic trays for further transport and transported via conveyor technology. This makes handling and identification of the objects easier. Before the suitcases are placed in the containers, it is important to ensure that the trays are properly emptied. To do this, a robot gripper turns the tray over. The laser distance sensor time-of-flight installed above it measures the distance to the underside of the objects. If the distance to the bottom of the tray is within the tolerance, the tray is released for refilling.
